What do the people of Carno want a train station?

At the Sioe Carno Show 2026 the Carno Station Action Group asked people why they wanted a station and the answers were revealing!

Of the 101 answers we received many focused on simply the convenience of having our own station and the lack of public transport in the village, however, some interesting themes emerged about what convenience and access to better public transport would mean for the people of Carno.

Although the answers were varied one respondent summed up the key issue:

‘To improve community connectivity’.

Unsurprisingly, at an event all about family and fun, many people had holidays, visits to family, days out and entertainment as a priority, with 25 respondents specifically mentioning this, although often alongside other reasons.

Eleven people simply  wanted to use their car less, because of fuel prices or the environment.

Importantly, four people wanted to be able to access employment or education, and eight people wanted to access healthcare or other essential services. This was linked with concerns about independence for older residents (four answers) or young people (five answers). One person summed it up by answering ‘Better access to services, particularly for young people and the elderly.’

Several people also mentioned the feeling of isolation in a rural community with poor transport links. One person said ‘We are too isolated if we do not have a car’.
